On the snowy summit of Mt. San Gorgonio, 5-19-1998
The Mt. San Gorgonio trail begins near Forest Falls at 6080'. The trail was clear up to 7100', patchy snow and ice up to 8100', and solid snow and ice up to the summit. Crampons were required from 8100' up. Since the trail was covered over by snow I basically just hiked straight up the mountain. I reached the summit around 6 pm. After spending a few moments on the summit and taking several self portraits I hiked down to about 10,000' and made camp. The next day I hiked the remainder of the way out.
