Jepsen Peak, 11,205'
6-14-1998
Jepsen Peak is just west of Mt. San Gorgonio and the same trail is used for both mountains. I had clear trail up to High Creek camp, 9400', where I made camp for the night. The next morning at dawn I started out for the summit. The trail was covered by snow so I just went straight up the mountain side. Jepsen Peak, although not as high has San Gorgonio, has a much more defined summit and a better view. After hitting the summit I came back down to camp following High Creek. This route was extreamly steep and icy, several times I slipped and had use my ice axe to perform self arrests (which was a great deal of fun).
