Camp Muir, Mount Rainier National Park, 10,000'

Up at Camp Muir with Jared, Mt. Adams in back ground
Due to poor planing, lack of gear, and lack of experience, Jared and I decided to not to make a full ascent of Mt. Rainier in the summer of 1998. Instead we went for a great day hike up to Camp Muir. The first two miles, and 1780' elevation gain, is just a beautiful stroll through the lush green meadows around Paradise. The remaining 2.5 miles, and 2800' elevation gain, are spent hiking straight up the Muir snowfield. The hike up the snowfield is a killer, but the hike down is fun, you can practically run down it with no fear of getting injured. Overall this was a difficult hike, but it was also incredibly fun.
