The Monk
Pheonix, AZ
Leading "The Monk", Fall 1997
The Monk is not a difficult climb by any means. It consists of an easy 5.4 pitch, a short hike, then a second 5.6 pitch. What makes this rock so cool is the fact that it just kind of jets up out of the side of Camel Back Mountain. Up on the top of The Monk there is only maybe 100 square feet of area. The view from the top is pretty great. Greg, Ryan, and I probably shot up half a roll of film up on top of this rock. We spent so much time sitting on top that the sun began setting as we descended and we had to hike out in the dark.
